Magic Wheelchair was founded on a simple mission: to give kids in wheelchairs an unforgettable experience by creating custom costumes for them at no expense to their families. They achieve this by matching families with trained volunteer build teams. The end-result goes beyond delivering an amazing wheelchair costume. Their seemingly simple mission is now raising awareness for rare diseases, bringing together communities, providing education opportunities, and promoting inclusion for children with disabilities.
The Magic Wheelchair and La Fondation partnership is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to bring together students, engineers, and people with disabilities. This level of creativity and inclusion is paving the way for generations to come and showing the world that anyone can create MAGIC.
Delivering dreams in real life
The Magic Wheelchair organization has achieved their annual year-end goal of doubling the number of families served and guarantee the quality of every wheelchair costume. They have also expanded their impact and inclusion of children with disabilities by fulfilling costume requests for kids on the waitlist. It helped develop curriculum modules supporting the unique Magic Wheelchair build process. Magic Wheelchair was also able to provide tools and training to educators that empower their students to find fun and purpose in engineering wheelchair costumes. Finally, Magic Wheelchair can now scale curriculum content for national distribution to classrooms and student volunteers; and to strengthen and expand the current capacity and reach of Magic Wheelchair’s program offerings.

At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.
